For this week’s Industry Talk Thursday(ITT), the speaker was Ms. Erin Hwang. The topic she shared with us was “Evolution of a Traditional Media in a Digital Environment – Radio.”
She gave us additional insights about radio and how most people have misconceptions of people working in Radio stations. Firstly, radio has separated in many different ways which are FM radio, digital radio, internet radio, social media, podcast, apps, and events. All of them are under radio category.
Secondly, radio in the past was just recording audio and was showed to the audience. Nowadays, radio has developed into an audio-visual form which not only can be listened to but also watched. With the technology developing, more videos and live streams are performed.
Last but not least, we also learned that the career in radio is not the only DJ but there are also many other departments involved. A career in radio station also has content, sales, marketing, audio engineering, broadcast engineering and IT, multimedia production, finance and also activation team. This has destroyed our traditional mind that once you join the radio station, you automatically become a DJ.
