THE ART OF FILMMAKING

As one of Malaysia’s most established filmmaking course, PORTMAN grounds you with an excellent foundation in both the artistic and technical aspects of filmmaking. Stretch your imagination and tell compelling stories while leveraging on a wide array of filmmaking tools and the latest post-production facilities for image, sound, motion graphics and visual effects with professionals from our sister company, outLOUD Studios.

 

REAL-WORLD EXPOSURE

At PORTMAN, you will be introduced to a filmmaker’s craft with hands-on practice in a professional studio environment working with professionals who are Film Producers, Directors and Editors who will be producing projects for RTM, Media Prima or Astro. You will get to work with the latest cinema cameras, surround sound mixers and multi-track recording studios. In your final year, you have the option of working on your own film project, or undertaking an industry project, and embarking on a four-month internship in the film and media industry.

 

CAREER PROSPECTS

You will be able to pursue a dream career in film or television production as a Director, Producer, Cinematographer, Editor, Scriptwriter or even an Actor! Other areas open to you include Motion Graphics, Sound Recording and Design, as well as content development.

You could write your own pay cheque! Set up your own production company or make your mark as an independent filmmaker!

 

FURTHER STUDIES

With a Diploma in FTV Production, you may enjoy advanced standing when taking up degree programmes at top film and media schools both locally and abroad.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

3 Credits in SPM/ GCE ‘O’ Level examination (or equivalent) in any subject.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

i. A pass in SPM or its equivalent, with a minimum of 3 credits in any subject,
including English;
OR
ii. A pass in Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) or its equivalent, with a
minimum of Grade C (GP 2.00) in any subject and a credit in English at SPM
or its equivalent;
OR
iii. A pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with a minimum grade of
Maqbul and a credit in English at SPM or its equivalent;
OR
iv. A pass in SKM level 3 and pass SPM with a credit in English;
OR
v. A Certificate or its equivalent and a credit in English at SPM or its equivalent;
OR
vi. A Certificate in Media and Communication or its equivalent.

• You will gain backstage access and interview celebrities and newsmakers for publication. • You will have direct insights into the dynamics & explore the various facets of the media & communications world. • You will gain real-world exposure through projects, internships or a stint at our very own student media & communication agency. • You have access to State-of-the-art facilities including TV and radio studios, and editing suites.  
START WITH A FIRM FOUNDATION
For the best possible learning experience, classroom assignments go beyond academic exercises. You may find yourself reporting on live shows, reviewing theatrical plays and restaurants, interviewing or taking photographs of celebrities and business personalities, producing programmes for national TV or radio, or pitching advertising and public relations campaigns to multinational companies as part of your assignments.  
LEARN FROM THE BEST
You will also get a chance to go on 4-month local or overseas internships as your seniors have with industry leaders such as Media Prima Group, ASTRO Group, SONY Entertainment and many more. Alternatively, you could work with a student managed media and creative agency – D Agency, where you will pitch for business and deliver editorial, design, photography, public relations, advertising, digital media, TV and radio production services to clients. You may even get to supervise your peers for our campus lifestyle magazine, e-zine, campus radio or online TV station.  
CAREER PROSPECTS
Be equipped for careers in TV and radio production with modules including Advanced Radio Production, Documentary Production and Advanced TV Production. JOURNALISM & PUBLISHING Broadcast Journalism, Online Journalism, Photojournalism, Print Journalism and Creative Writing. ADVERTISING & PUBLIC RELATIONS Advertising, Advertising Creatives, Public Relations, Integrated Marketing Communications and Events Management. DIGITAL MEDIA COMMUNICATION Integrated Digital Media, Social Media Strategies, and Content Design for Mobile Devices.  
FURTHER STUDIES
The Diploma in Mass Communication is recognised by local private universities and many overseas universities, with many of them granting module exemptions.
